This lithograph and note card show a lone moose crossing an open meadow in front of the Grand Teton as an early morning mist rises from the Snake River. This river meanders across the valley floor beneath the 13,770 - foot Grand Teton and the rest of the Teton Range. Winter temperatures on the valley floor can drop to minus 45 degrees and wildlife must negotiate snow depths of 3 feet and more. Moose survive the harsh winters browsing on willows and cottonwoods along the watersheds of the valley.
